At 12:45 p.m., the woman was crossing the alleyway at the entrance to the Tier Garage at 426 Springfield Ave. when she was struck by a 2021 Jeep Cherokee driven by an 85-year-old man who was traveling east on Springfield Avenue and turned right into the alleyway leading to the garage, Summit police said in a release.
The driver told police as he made the turn, he looked ahead to several parking spaces and did not see the woman before he struck her, officers said. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital by the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad for treatment, police said.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Summit Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau, officers said.
